Calling all Brits! Altberg boots?
« on: June 10, 2009, 06:26:08 PM »
I love the look of the Altberg Clubman Classic or the one with the velcro fasteners. Is there anyone over there can give metheir opinion on the Alt-Berg boost from Richmond, Yorkshire? The only thing I know is that i love the town and have been there in 1994. Missed the motorcycle boot factory though! :o Pub was good and we stayed overnight in the pub we started in!
Looking for a totally waterproof boots that might be more flexible than the Tech 4 Alpinestars I have which are NOT waterproof!  I can live with less flexibilty but waterproof would be nice!

A couple of my chums have Altberg boots and are quite happy with them. I intend to visit the factory/shop myself during the next couple of week, as I'm difficult to fit when it comes to footwear. I'll report back as things progress.

Of course I will  :) . I think they need to know the diameters around the calf when you have your motorcycling leathers on too. I will be checking on this. I've discovered their boots dont have a steel shank in the sole, though, which may be important for off roaders.

Hi Sue.
The people at Altberg told me that boots MUST be ordered using UK sizes. Also, if the foot is medium to wide, then a 1/2 size bigger than your normal boot fitting should be ordered. For narrow to medium, just order normal boot size. They also told me that sending a drawn outline of the foot would not help them in selecting the correct fitting for you.
Myself, I was incredibly lucky today, in happening upon a paiir of Alpinestars at my local and excellent h***a dealership that actually fit me. Incredibly lucky, because, an identical pair, of the same size were too tight in the fore foot, just like every pair of quality boots I've tried in the last 6 months. Just as I was giving up hope of ever finding a decent pair of cumfy boots, fate has lent a hand providing an accidental wide fitting pair. If that wasn't enough good fortune, they were on sale, as 3 year old stock at less than half price  :) .
I hope you're as pleased with your Altbergs Sue.

Thank you so much for the info Larsorders. I have been away from the forum for a bit. No real reason except for nice weather. Luckily I have a number of UK sized footwear so I can supply an accurate  UK sizing number. If it weren't so expensive, Derek and I would have loved to relocate to North Yorkshire and he loved Masham...Old Peculier is brewed the old fashion way there. Spelling of peculier is on purpose. Its a Newcastle owned ale..is that right?

Old Peculier is DELICIOUS. You can get it in bottles, not quite as good as draught, but still DELICIOUS. So now are you wondering if a crate could be shipped to Canada  ;D . Oh yes! I believe the brewery is now once more controlled by the Theakston family.

We agree that the draught tastes better but we can't be too picky! We found some knock-off Old Peculier made at a brewery here which was pretty good but the real stuff, in a bottle though, we found down in Raleigh NC! Got to visit Masham for the best! (And pick up some Altberg boots in Richmond while I'm there....what a dream!)

Gee I forgot Aïda is right there in Raleigh. More like in Cary I think but it's a long time ago..like 10 years when Derek was with me. So he remembers that we could get it at the 42nd St. Oyster Bar for drinking on premises but they may not sell it there. Derek thinks, and we have to check this out with our friend Judy, that we bought the bottled stuff from a store in a mall. Maybe it's  the one near one with a Walmart in it ....like that helps! Kildare Farm Road south of the Cary Parkway is where we remember the little mall was.  Just guess WE will have to go to the Bar!! I love Oysters!
