R65 Streettracker

I finally got my streettracker seat for the R65,just to finish off the looks. Now I truly have 2 bikes in one - to remove the seat, and fit original seat and guards, with road tyres on my extra set of wheels only takes 30 minutes.

Fun!  I would like to find an extra set of wheels for mine too; the tires I put on it are nice on dirt and gravel, but scared the crap out of me when I actually tried to go through a paved corner like I normally do.  I need to find that old thread and add my update.

The Dunlop K70's are excellent on gravel or seal,I prefer them to my road tyres - but they are wearing to quick....the rear is down to 3mm after 2,000km.You pay for grip. It's winter here now,so I will convert it back to original for the wet and cold.

Way cool, Motu! Looks like a BMW flat tracker. I dig the vibe. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

That is a really good looking set up with the seat and tires.  Definitely a head turner.  What kind of pipes and do they have a good tone?

They are just some universal reverse cone megas,it sounds really nice....but a bit borderline legally here. The collector is stuffed (rattles) so will take it out soon.I'll make a couple of systems - I really like the megas, and their angle,so will just make replacement pipes instead of the collector.I'll also make a 2 into 1,and run my Supertrapp out one side...or the other.

Motu,

your bike looks awesome!  That tailsection and the battery covers give it a great look.  Are those custom bits, or pulled off of other BMW's?

Is the tank stock?

The seat is custom built for the bike, but side panels and tank are stock. It would look better with a smaller tank, but as this bike is built for back roads I need good range.

Those "longhorn" bars ought to look good as you get her crossed-up on the fire roads, always drifting left, I'm sure. I didn't catch their width when I first looked at the pics... the flat track image grabbed me.

Kinda like the black lowers on the front end. Trick bike.

The bars are flattrack bars - Slideways from Omar. They have given me almost the same riding positions as the Yamaha XT600 I had before, and have made the bike much more flickable than stock.I have done a little flattrack (just on a clay short track) so knew what I wanted the bike to feel like.It slides nicely on gravel, much more controllable than a high centre of gravity dirt bike. It's very stable in the loose, and doesn't move around as much as a 21in.On seal I can carry more speed on turn in and load the front tyre more than the 90/90 stock tyre....the short stroke light flywheel R65 engine loads the rear tyre less,so it's very stable.

It was a gamble to choose such a bike for a streettracker, but I wanted an airhead BMW too - and it has turned out exactly what I wanted.

Motu, how about posting some close up detail shots of that scooter on the Photo Gallery?  That's one of the most interesting R65's I think I've seen in quite a while.  Include some of the specs & modifications if you would.

Motu, Dunlop does not show an 18" front tire; is that just the 4.00 x 18 rear that you are using?
