Justin,

The grime was on the rags, my hands and my clothes.  But you are right, compared to your starting point this is easier.

Actually, this LS was well maintained and there have been no real surprises.  Fluids were not rancid.

This takedown and refurbishing certainly was needed after 26 yrs.

By the way, I like your wheels!  It's got me thinking of what color to do with mine.  Silver as you have done,  or white.  A chocolate or vanilla decision.

This project is definitely moving in right direction.

Peter

My color dilemma was semi-gloss black or silver.  I had seriously contemplated painting the entire bike matte black but a metallic red won out in the end...

I've thought about the black look to, but I figure that wheel weights are also less visible on silver than black.   I've seen some bikes with red body work and red wheels, for example, but sometime the effect is a bit like looking at a Conestoga wagon, or something..   I definitely lean to going with the silver, I think.... or black..... or white...wait, no definitely black, err, silver.

Car guys call the matte/primer look "suede". There's even a new paint that looks like primer but doesn't permit moisture to leech through the primer and attack the sheet metal.

Quite a bit of this look showing up in the 'zines I subscribe to.

I saw a bike on eBay, and Craigslist, that looked like they used a paint roller, and truck bed liner.

Definitely a textured look !!!

No wasting time on sunday morning waxing and polishing that type of paint job!   I think that I'll stick with the more aerodynamic paint styles..

That's definitely a nice looking bike flong, but the wheels .... well I'm just not really sure about - guess it maybe an acquried taste? I think I'll keep coming back to this to test it out.

Sharp looking R65! What mufflers are those you're running? I'm considering replacing the black OEM cans on one of my R65s.

That engine is just too clean... you must be low on oil ;D

Justin mentioned the idea of all black paint scheme on his LS, so I thought I'd show you what the black wheels look like. I have to admit Aussie I go back and forth as to the wheels, but the bike does get a lot of compliments, so yes it is an acquired taste. (Wish I had two sets of wheels so I could change them up now and again).

Monte......Mufflers are original
