I would get a decently sized, but not huge, tank bag and put a bit of that foam stuff in that they use for lining the inside of instrument cases or inside of gun cases in the bottom and the sides. Or, if you don't have access to such foam, probably stop by a staples office supply store and buy a small roll of that bubble wrap plastic to tuck in the tank bag. I should think the camera would be fine with that - or worst case, wear a back pack and put it in there (or have your wife wear it if she is riding as passenger).
There are many good brands of motorcycle bags out there. I've got some saddlebags from Nelson Rigg that are very good , and I've got a magnetic tankbag from DowCo like this one:
http://tinyurl.com/c9fptswhich works very well for me for carrying stuff like cameras, cell phones, raingear, water bottle, snack bars, maps, etc. I swap the magnetic tank bag from my R65 to my Kawasaki Concours frequently and it does the trick, is well made, and is rather inexpensive.
