Suzuki Savage

A kid down the street is trying to sell me a 2002 Suzuki Savage....650 cc single thumper.......30 hp. Seems to be a really nice machine........but I have never ridden anything but a BMW..know nothing about  Japanese cycles. Anyone know about the quality of a Suzuki Savage..experience with one??

SC John has lots of experience with the Savage. He said it was a great little bike.

That's what PattiMarie was riding when she got hit by the truck.  :'(

they are near bullet proof little bikes. great for around town. not so good for highways. they are small and pretty light so they are popular with beginning riders. other great little around town bikes are the honda rebel and its cousin the nighthawk, the kawi's ex 250 and its bigger brother the ex500. all built on solid platforms that have been around a long time and 99% of the bugs worked out years ago.

My wife Pattimarie had a '98 Savage, and I rode it every chance I got!  It was a real delight to ride, and the feel and sound of that single cylinder was wonderful!  I could even cruise on the interstate at 70 mph without any trouble!  ( I rode it from Crystal River, FL back to Easley, SC when we bought it in June of '05.) I was so sad to see it all busted up in Pattimarie's accident back in June of '06. :(

You may want a bigger bike for serious touring or long trips, but I can tell you that the Savage is a real hoot on around town riding or short jaunts in the country!  Ya just can't beat the fun of riding a thumper!! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

My brother in law just acquired one. Converting it to a  Bobber look, less is more. Super reliable and anyone who has owned a BIG single will tell you they are a unique ride. In case you haven't Googled it yet here's one little page [there are many] 'bout it.

I did manage to find one of Pattimarie's Savage that I took one day when we were out riding on the Cherokee Scenic Highway in upstate SC.  You can't really see the intricate artwork on the tank (a two-headed dragon) because the painting was done in a "ghost image" style where you can't really make out what is painted until you are more or less standing right in front of it, and then you say, "Hey, there's a dragon!"  The guy who painted her bike also painted "scales" on the side covers that you can kind of make out, but not that well until you were very close to her bike.   We got SO many compliments on her bike!  She called it, "La Pocita Thumper", or "The Tiny Thumper" in Spanish.  We both usually referred to her bike as simply "LPT".  I sure miss her bike.....  :(

Pretty good, Rob.  She has been given a clean bill of health after her open heart surgery in August, and other than some arthritis in her left knee and hand, gets around pretty well these days.  I kind of doubt if she will ever ride her own bike, but she has told me she would probably try riding on back again.  That will work for me!   ;)

Right now, she is really busy getting us ready to move into our new house we bought!  We close on the 27th, and will finally get out of this dump we've been crammed in for the past three years.  We will have a "luxury" in our new house in a 2-car garage, where I can park my bike!  YAY!!!   :D
