Nat'l DO NOT CALL list for cell phones
« on: December 12, 2008, 05:42:02 PM »
Don't know if you are aware but next month, Jan 2009, all cell phone numbers go public and will be released to telemarketers.

The National DO NOT CALL number is 888.382.1222.

You must call from the cell phone you wish to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

It's a quick automated call. Your number will be blocked for five (5) years.
Lynn and I did this yesterday evening. Took about 1.5 minutes for the whole deal.

Thank you!  I just did mine, and I stored the number so I can call them easily if I get any calls.

Trouble is, with my last name, most of the calls I get are talking Spanish, and I don't comprende so well...

Yo no tengo uno cell phone.

I don't actually know the gender of cell phones, nor the Spanish words.  But remember:  Valdez is coming.

And we're looking forward to seeing him again.

 Valdez is coming.

That has a ominous ring to it! Think I'll adopt that phrase

It's from some old western movie.  I'm pretty sure Valdez was the good guy, so it's only ominous if you're not one.

Yes um. Made in 1971 and starring Burt Lancaster - it was actually shot in Spain. Lancaster (Valdez) gets tricked into shooting an innocent man and then spends the rest of his time trying to get even.

This is an urban legend spread by email forwarding. Telemarketers will have no more access to your cell phone number next month or the month after than they did last month or any month before.

Registering on the national do not call list is still a good idea, however. You can call the number listed above or register at http://www.donotcall.gov. The registration is permanent now, no longer limited to 5 years.

Maybe. Maybe not.

My info was distributed via my USAFAux Squadron CO through Texas Wing Hdqtrs.

YMMV

Nothing is correct - this is a repeating email hoax.   I tend to check out anything that sounds like this with snopes dot com, who seem to be very good about staying up to date on these things.  Here is an URL to the very thing on their website:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp

As mentioned already, it is still a good idea to register your cell phone #s with the donotcall website.  My wife and I have already done so a few years ago.
