Happy Thanksgiving to all !
« on: November 25, 2008, 10:52:55 PM »

Whether or not you are a resident of the U.S.A- or celebrate our Thanksgiving holiday or not- I want to take a moment to say "Thank you" to everyone on this forum for making this such a special place.  A place which I love to visit often, and where I've learned so very much from so very many.  For this - and many other things, I am so grateful.

So whether you are spending this weekend with family and friends and a huge roasted bird, or doing whatever else you like to do, I wish you and your families
all the best.

A very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours too, Mike, as well as to all the other great folks here at the R65 board!

Now, please allow me to share a short, touching Thanksgiving story...

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad
attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's
mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried
to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words,
playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the
bird's vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot.
The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier
and even more rude. John, in desperation, threw up his hands, grabbed the
bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked
and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep
was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John
quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out
onto John's outstretched arms and said, "I believe I may have offended
you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my
inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can
to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior." John was stunned at the
change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what
had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued,
"May I ask what the turkey did?"

[smiley=ROTFLMAO.gif] Heard something very similar just recently.

Though we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here I know it is a very special time of the year for you folks up north. I think I would not be criticised if I say:

'From all of us here, Down Under - Happy Thanksgiving'.

Cheers

Thanks, Tim.

And now for a true and funny Thanksgiving story that happened at my table years ago...

My family, including in-laws and out-laws, were enjoying a Thanksgiving dinner. Also at my table was a gentleman from Australia. Both he and another fella were away from family and were pleased to be included.

My ex-sister-in-law, a product of the shallow end of the gene pool, was berating my Aussie guest after she learned that Australians did not celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. She proceeded to tell my guest that he was, "un-American."

Before I could swat my ignorant ex-sister-in-law with a rolled up newspaper, our down under guest, to his credit, calmly replied, "We Australians are not concerned about being un-American".

It was not long afterwards that I was able to escape from the entire looney tunes family via the Big D... and I don't mean Dallas.

God bless our nation's uniformed service men and women who will be away from their families.   [smiley=dankk2.gif]

Happy thanksgiving to all on this wonderful forum weather or not this day is celebrated in your town. I'm thankful for many things one of which is this community of diverse yet brotherly / sisterly enthusiasts.

Oh!  I didn't see this thread until after I'd already posted on the Thanksgiving thread in the Announcements category.   Well, I'll just have to double up on my Thanksgiving greetings.   ;D

Not that kind of smoke Sue!   ::)  Oh my!

I've never done a smoked turkey.  You'll have to let us know how it turned out!

I've got one for ya here:

What kind of key has legs but can't open doors?

Drum roll please!

Turkey!
 ;D
Okay, okay.  Well the other one, that I can't remember right now, was worse.   ::)

I hope everybody ate too much and is miserable like I am!  ;D  Turkey turned out OK, I had never smoked one before.  It had a real good flavor and was extremely tender.  The only issue was the breast seemed to get done before the inner thigh portion.
