Just ponderin'
« on: October 23, 2008, 09:22:24 PM »
I have been thinking lately about trying a set of U.S. bars (or maybe /2 bars with the crossbar?) and try to get one of the BMW windshields and maybe even the aux light set???

It is the Euro bars that have prevented me from looking this way in the past.

Rob wants that "Bavarian Road King" look !  ;)

As long as you don't go crazy with the light's wattage, or upgrade your charging system (you have heated grips, too right ?) you should be OK.

Well, the 400W unit would be nice.

Only one light is an auxiliary driving light.  The other is a fog lamp.

Careful on that bar swap, I think Rob's were damaged in his mishap, weren't they? Rob, I love the look of the setup you pictured and have contemplated it myself but I'd need another R65 to pull it off. I just couldn't do that on an LS as much as I do like it! It will take your already unique setup up another notch.
Would you be fabing up the bracket yourself? I think the factory bits would be fabulously expensive.

Cooool. Are those factory accessories?

I wonder how the wind turbulence would be with that screen. Anyone in here have one to report on that?

They do appear in the parts fiche but I've never seen them in the flesh. Hammersly BMW lists them on their fiche but I suspect the bracket or bow as its called is NLA

Realoem has the 'bow' or bracket available - Part # 63171237600 for $89.28.  Looks like the kit is NLA, but many of the parts still show up.  That doesn't necessarily mean you can get your hands on them, though.  ::)

Graham used to have big auxiliary lights on the front of his BMW, but they were Advance Auto store $15 lights.    The bracket was made by a company that has gone out of business.  They were dual lights that worked as a backup to the headlight (his went dark on him one evening and he swore that would never happen again!) He wired the switch directly to the battery with a K&N switch mounted at the end of the left handlebar grip.  He had a luftmiester fairing mounted at that point in time and the bracket worked in conjunction with the fairing mount.  I'll see if I can find any pictures...
