I'm Safe and Home Now!!!
« on: June 29, 2008, 05:17:39 PM »
Boy, thanks so much for asking about my whereabouts!! I am going to make it a rule that I call say Nhmaf when I'm on the road to let everyone of my dear buddies that I'm OK. I never get to a computer.

So I arrived home last night at 5:30pm and feel ever so overwhelmed with the weeds and chores.

First though..Semper Gumby (Bill)....Stewart Wallace my riding friend Lost your email address and he has asked for it so he can forward the BSA info!!  There that wee job is completed.

Next...I want to thank everyone for caring where I was...now i feel needed. I was with Derek since tuesday when I arrived back into Canada from Kickstand Lodge in Stecoah, NC. Yup. I did turn and head for Kickstand when I sensed the guys were stopping to eat. I was just hot and tired and a wee bit eager to get to the campsite..stupid i know and sometimes I wonder where my mind is as sometimes i make bad decisions when riding. I should have stayed with the fellas and enjoyed their company...what sane woman wouldn't have!??

Now the new bike has 7600 or so km on it and it's running great...it would seem from first glance that the bike will NOT be one of the ones recalled for the faulty key ID thing...but can we trust those BMW guys???Wouldn't that just rot your socks in the middle of a desert and the bike can't be started! Yeeesh! Our R65's wouldn't do that!

Got great gas mileage..up to 79 mpg on the BRP and 75 mpg on our 60 mph roads and about 66-68 on the interstates at 110-120 kph...65-72 mph. Best part is the good gas range...240 miles before the light comes on then some nore say..about50 miles more to go. Now that I like!!! The f650GS single was more like 200 miles and it dropped dramatically if it was very windy. A twin motor helps a lot.

Excuse me guys for a moment or three....I'm making dinner and will getinto deep doo doo if I don't get back to chores for the moment..I'll be back as they say..! Just wanted you all to know right away that I am safe.

Glad you (and the bike) got back home safe and sound, and also that your new GS is as good "as advertised"!  Sounds like BMW got it right with this new twin!   [smiley=thumbup.gif]

Sorry my stupid job kept me from getting up to "the Gathering" this time.  I was really looking forward to meeting a big-time rider like yourself!  With any luck, next year will be MY year to go where I want, when I want.

Hope you took some pics of your trip to post!  I sure would like to see and hear about where you and your new bike went!  (You got a name for it yet?)

Yea!! Sue's back.  We sure miss you when you're gone - out and about having all that fun riding all over the place!  Glad your trip was safe, your bike held up to your expectations and we got to see you once again.  Trips are wonderful experiences, but isn't it always so nice to finally make it back home?   :D

Sue, remember to tell your friend Judy that I have her movie at the store...

Good to hear you made it home.  I knew you were okay and just having too much fun out there riding.

That's great your new bike is working out so well.  I really like that gas mileage.

So now you learned that lesson, right?  Hot and tired means stop to eat and drink (water)!   ;)  Especially when there's a great group of people stopping to do same.

Can't wait to hear your stories!

Boy do I feel a bit harried with all the gardening beckoning. Aïda..I have told Judy in Cary about the movie and thanks for reminding me!

Melena...my western trip to CA isn't going to happen. David is going but he's leaving this coming Sunday. There is no way that I feel ready to leave again that soon and will probably just go to the national MOA in Gillette and that's it. I spent to long in the south but in a way it was meeting Derek and staying another week in our old home town that really capped and gowned my joining David. I think he is relieved to be free to travel along on his own terms which are not so good for me or most others. He is deaf so hears no wind..and he cannot feel butt pain as he goes numb with all his "broken-back" tylenol 3 pills in him. He is the ideal iron butt rider..He feels pain when he gets OFF the bike...just the opposite to most of us!!! So he just wants to ride and ride....10-12 hours straight and he can't hear us whingeing or just chooses not to. I would dearly love to make the trip west to the Pacific with my ideal rding partner..my brother from Cape Breton but he works still so plans must be made.

Is anyone going to the national in Gillette??  And has our group photo been put up here in the forum yet??

Sue, I can totally understand that you don't want to start out so soon.  I'm sorry you won't make it to CA, but you are at least making it to Gillette, and I am not.  Plus you've already had a wonderfl ride this year.

I told Arla that you would be at Gillette.  She will be there and I'm sure you will be able to find each other.  Just look for those black t-shirts with the sheep.   8-)

Probably.

I'm wondering if I could find a fairing like my Windjammer, to keep me warm in sub freezing weather, which is no problem on my R65....  Electric stuff just isn't the same, too complicated and time consuming.

Remember that that 79 mpg is imperial measure and would be about 69 mpg US measure. The BRP is pretty slow and steady so that will reflect the very "bestest" gas mileage. I love the range as well.
