Updates on bike (and foot)
« on: May 11, 2008, 04:27:51 PM »
The service on my bike is finished, but it is still at the dealer.  I can't ride yet, so I have to get someone to bring it home for me.  I did go take a look at it though.  The new pipes and mufflers look great!     I'll get pictures posted later when I have the bike back.  I want to hear it roar though!   ;D

I've been out of the house only one time since I had my foot surgery ( a little over 2 weeks), and that was to go to the docs to have the cast taken off (and stop by the BMW dealer, and go to lunch  ;) ).  Everything is healing and going just as it should.  Unfortunately, in order for everything to heal properly, they put on another cast which will stay on for another 5 weeks.   :(   And I'm not supposed to drive until the cast is off.  So I'm off work until then (thank goodness for State Disability Insurance), unless someone from work can come and pick me up every morning and bring me home after work.  I can't put any weight on my foot at all.

In the meantime, I will be doing the little things I can do on the bike that I can do without having to put weight on my foot.  Like putting the decals on the battery side covers, and putting new roundels on the tank and on the back.  I'm also going to try out the technique I learned on the forum for fixing the crack in my hard bags.  I've got the nice bag from Mag's Bags for all the camping gear to go on the back of my bike that needs all the seams sealed.  So, I've got plenty to do.

When all this is done and I can get back on the bike, I'm going for a loooooooooong ride!  (After a few short ones and some parking lot practice to get my "feel" back. - It's been way too long since I was on a ride.)

Happy Spring riding everyone!

Way to go Melena! You're an inspiration to all of us.
Hope you are back on your feet & on the R65 soonest.
Very best wishes,

Yeah for Melena and all her plans to do all the little jobs that need doing while still following doctor's orders. Boy, I might be out to visit just about the time Melena gets riding again!!

It sounds like things are moving along, Melena!

Did they let you scratch your leg before they put the new cast on?   ::)

YES!  Thank goodness.  And it felt soooooooooooooo good!   ;D

Sue, I sure hope I can ride by the time you are in this area!   :o

I'm really trying to get back to work next Monday.  I can't believe that I'm actually wanting to go back to work.  But I'm going stir crazy.  That, and I'm missing out on getting money saved into my 401(k) as long as I'm off work.   I really want to be able to retire while I am still healthy enough to do things.  What's got me stir crazy is that I can't get outside.  I'm an outdoors kind of person and I really miss being out.

I'm going to somehow drag the hard bags out today and see what I can do to them.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for all the nice words.  I feel better now.   [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I stopped by the BMW dealer the other day to take care of my bill with them.  Unfortunately, I can't get it home yet.   :(  But they are letting me keep it there until I can get my friend to ride it home for me.

The one thing I did do, though, was have them run it for me for a few minutes there in the parking lot.  Ooooooooo!  What a nice sound those MAC mufflers make.   Sweet!  ;D  She is running nice and smooth, and sounds great!  I can't wait to get this cast off my leg and be able to go ridng!  Aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhh!   (3 weeks and 6 days more for the cast to come off, and counting)

Glad you are healing well.
Sadie sends you a get well soon greeting also.
She is very well now. More finicky about eating than ever.
Cancer has not showed any signs of returning.
So now you do as told & recover completely.

And I will do as told!  Complete recovery is a must.  I'll be better than I was before!   ;D   (positive thinking, you know!)

Thanks for the updates. How many more days is it now?

And do you have one of those rolling knee walker thingies? I had one years ago after breaking a leg jogging in the snow. They are TOP DRAWER FUN compared to those instruments of torture from the Inquisition known as 'Crutches'.

Here's more mo' and betta healing!  ;D

Joan,
It is now down to 2 weeks and 6 days, and counting!    :-?

I do have one of those rolling knee walker thingies (they call it a knee scooter    ;D ).  It is great!  The torture sticks lasted one day.  I can scoot all over the house, well downstairs anyway, and cook my meals and stuff.  I can get down the 3 steps out of my place okay, but I can't get back up by myself.  At least I haven't braved it by myself yet.  I really don't want to damage my foot after all this.

My left leg is getting really strong!  It will be really strange when I get the cast off and have a real buff left leg and a wimpy skinny right leg.    ;D

I keep thinking I'm doing fine and that I'm well.  But I get tired out easily and then I realize that my body is working hard doing the  healing thing.

Thanks for the good healing thoughts!
