New retro-Guzzi revealed !
« on: January 18, 2008, 02:11:04 PM »
Since many folks on this forum can appreciate the lighter, smaller displacement machines, and at least a few are interested in MotoGuzzis as well, I found this tidbit
http://www.motorcycleclassics.com/Black-Side-Down/Moto-Guzzi-V7-Returns.aspx

Could be fun !   It could be the modern Italian equivalent of a more modern R65, too !   I hope that they do bring these to the US market and that they have success with them.  Although cruisers are shiny and can be fun on Saturday night, I think we need more of these all-arounders, especially when they have a bit of a classic look..

Yeah Mike, the new V7 is supposed to be a very sweet machine indeed! I now also own a Guzzi and spend some time on their boards, and word of mouth from those in the know and in Europe is that it should be a good seller for Guzzi, inasmuch as any of their models are "big sellers".

I know some of the moto-mags have dissed this bike for only having a 750 engine, but it wasn't intended to be a hot rod, rather a modernized, fun and reliable update of the original V7 Sport, a true Guzzi classic. It's a beautiful bike too!  ;)

That is a totally cool cycle. .......like the R65 a perfect bike for twisty country roads, lazy summer days...not some 900 pound hog that only wants to go in a straight line. I think I drooled on the key board.

I saw a pic of the V7 in Cycle Canada mag and I liked it a lot! I thought that it would be a great stablemate for LRB and could be a fine machine for my touring needs. I don't like a lot of fairings!! I like sleek.  Looks like I'm getting the F650GS twin for Spring which is a 71 hp 800cc engine like it's 85hp F800GS which has been delayed.  Is this V7 coming to our markets anyone know>???

P.S. The reduction to 71 hp. from the 85 hp that the rest of the F800's have is done through "softer" cams and valve timing changes???? The bore and stroke are the same as the big brother bikes. Anyone enlighten me here? I always wonder if these aspects could not be changed later on to increase the 71hp to 85 hp. I guess one can do anything with money eh?? Can ya just screw on a F800 upper part of the engine to a F650gs block??? Fanciful??? Dumb???
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

That is a classic looking 'standard' bike, about the only thing I would change, is cast wheel rims and dual front discs.

I just like dual discs, and never really was fond of spoked rims.

that could be a sweet modern cafe racer, the only thing i don't like is how the seat goes all the way to the back like some of the airheads, i like a bit of metal back there, it leaves more room for the flow of a nice paint scheme.

Do you mean more like either of these?

Guzzi still makes sport bikes, as well as standards, "retrobikes", and tourers.
Both of these pictured are currently for sale on Ebay.

You bet, it's a sweet looking ride, but it seems to me that MG is just offering the Breva 750 in a different skin.  Am I wrong?  Both are standards, both have a single disc up front, with the same 750cc engine (I think).  But then again, I haven't seen the actual spec sheet on this new V7, so I could be wrong.  Could be a different animal altogether!  ;)

You're kinda correct, John, as Guzzi did graft the engine, trans and drivetrain from the 750 Breva into the new V7. That's what got a few folks PO'd, as they were wanting a hotter package overall.
Beyond that, though, the frame, forks and suspension, ergos, specs, etc. are quite different.
"Cousins", maybe?  ;)

Yeah, pretty close cousins, if you ask me....  If you look at the Breva 750

Doesn't the frame, front forks, and rear shocks look the same?  Looks like they reshaped the gas tank, gave it a bench seat similar to the Triumph Bonneville, and modified the side panels a bit.  Other than that, they look very similar.

But this strategy of offering both a more modern looking bike (with an optional low seat) and a "retro" version of the same bike might just work!   ;)  (Personally, I'm just glad to see Moto-Guzzi still cranking out bikes!)  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I'm sure that both of them probably share alot of parts, probably like the R65/R65LS, but I DO like the retro look of that bike more than the more modern-looking Breva.
I bet it would look very nice with a sidecar, too !

Hmmm, my previous pics have disappeared, and I don't see any way to edit posts any more.
The procedure for posting pics seems to have s=changed too.
Did I miss  something?  :-?

SCJJ, how do you post pics with a title and that little paperclip thingie?
