After I put on the leg shields, I mentioned the Tracy fairing that was sitting my shelf, on Boxerworks forum, and the Veg kind of prompted me to get off my butt and put it on the bike, as well.
So I have been cutting and drilling and painting and bending and repairing and more bending and drilling...
I had to extend the turn signal stalks, for which I used LS stalks and clamps. I had to cut the original stalks back a little bit as they were too long.
Couldn't have done it without a Dremel!
If the fairing were to ever become a permanent fixture (unlikely) I would probably relocate the turn signals to allow more flexibility of positioning.
I had to make four brackets. Two are on either side of the headlight, so they match up with the bucket screws pretty easily.
The upper mounts were a whole nuther thing entirely. I was using 1/2" wide flat steel stock.
This picture shows the right upper mount. It has really given me a hard time. It has changed quite a bit since this picture was taken, but the same basic curves are there. The large hole is for the upper triple-tree clamp screw, and the small hole is for the fairing mount.
I
stripped the threads the in the triple clamp when I removed the right side screw. I ended up drilling out to the next size larger fastener, which turned out to be 7/16". So I now have a SAE fastener on my bike.

Maybe someday I can find a cheap used top clamp and replace it.
So I rode it to work on Monday of last week with it mounted, still the original silver color. It looked and felt good, so that night after work I pulled it off to prepare it for paint, which I did over this last weekend.
I must say, I REALLY like the tinted windshield with the black better than I did the silver.
I have yet to get it out in the daylight for decent cockpit pictures. The GPSr is a bit more cramped now, but doable.
It rides real nice. So far only to work and back, with a nice 20 minute ride thrown in at lunch! Most of the time I don't notice any additional or different wind noise than I did with it naked. For that I am relieved. It must be fairly "clean".
My chin comes fairly close to the top of the windscreen. I have to be conscious of it when mounting and dismounting. Same with the leg shields. But it will be worth it come cool weather!
If I want my neck out of the air stream, all I have to do is slouch slightly. For my upcoming trip to Oklahoma on the 18th of Oct., I have a new neck triangle for my throat from Aerostich, and of course the handlebar covers complete the coverage.
Hopefully my seat will not become too much of an issue in my testing this as a touring mount. I know I have struggled this year fighting the wind in my attempts to travel. These three pieces come on and off so easily, I know I will remove them once warm weather comes, but if I take any trips next summer, they will go back on in a jiffy!
