New User, riding again and loving it!
« on: September 12, 2007, 02:28:01 AM »
Hey from Georgia!

It's been 15 years since I last rode.  :'( Finally convinced RN wife that bikes are only dangerous for the unwary or immortal. I know this is partly correct.

Didn't tell her everyone is still blind and trying to kill me.  :o
Now they all have shiny plastic growing from their heads. And it makes them even worse drivers!!    >:(

Anyway, the new ride is actually 25 years old, but in pretty good shape and will always get better. I love working on it so far.

Replaced the entire ingition system starting with the coil and ending with the plugs.

Also planning to add side and top cases soon. When I can find those elusive side mounts that is... May end up paying a metal wizard to make a set.   ;)

Included a picture of the r65. I know, white is not an 82 color. There are many other non-82 things. I posted about this elsewhere and am still finding unexpected changes...

It runs great and is a blast to drive. I always take the long way from A to B now.

Glad to be here!!

Welcome aboard !

don't worry about having a non-standard R65 around here - almost none of us do,
in our quest to make these little bikes our "own" !   Thanks for sharing a pic of your
bike, and if you get a chance, go post your location in our Frappr! website - you may discover that
there are some other R65 owners in your area !

I'd like to add my own "welcome" as well!  And I think your bike looks great!  It has "character"!  Not another cookie-cutter R65 like we so often see.  Who says you have to keep your little cow in the stock colors BMW chose?  (Hell, I had mine painted "Metallic Emerald"!) ;)

I always thought that BMW was a little too conservative in their choices for colors anyway.  And that seat is really sweet, too!

Hope to see you on a regular basis around here!

Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

Nice byke!!!!! Remember, stock is just a starting place. Modified mine with european bars and progressive springs. My R80 Cafe even has a K75 front end, among other things.......Dew.

I am working now on making the bike as reliable as it can be.

Ignition system changed out, coil to plugs. Dielectric grease on all contacts. Fuel line and filter replaced. Synth oil now in the engine and tranny.

Soon will be changing out the pod to the stock type, and changing out the rest of the lubes with synth and hitting the splines. I am sure a dozen things will pop up after that.

Then making it my own!  ;D
Will start with new paint on the engine, not the fins...
Where from there? Not sure, but will have fun doing it.

Nice looking bike!

Don't worry too much about finding the R65 only side case racks.  Racks for the /7 series R80 and R100 are are plentiful and easily adaptable to your R65.

When I bought a Reynolds system for my R100RT, I shifted its factory side racks to the R65 by making a slight modification to the rack's forward upper left mount and by drilling two holes into the bike to accomodate the rack's lower leg mount holes.
