Kinda interesting crashes
« on: May 29, 2007, 09:44:29 PM »
I put this in this section because there were a couple of 'cycle boo-boos in it.  I think the first one (about 1/3 in) demonstrates why proper lane position and spacing is verrrrry important when group riding...

And here's a montage of hits, near-hits, shoulda been hits, and at least one real good save.  But, most of are dumb-asses who got what was coming to them and a few that got away with it...

After watching numerous videos last night I was surprised at how many of these new jap "sport-bikes" seem to go into wobbles when coming down from a wheelie...

it happens to all bikes justin. what happens is the front tires is still spinning but slows down so when you come down the front tire acts as a brake till it gets up to speed and creates a head shake. if your only pulling up the front tire for a little bit you hardly notice, its when you ride a rear wheel stand and that front can slow way down do guys get into trouble.

All I can say is it is amazing at the resiliancy of the human spine (and pelvis!).

And on the second one, the guy cutting through traffic!  He must have been on a F bike with no bags!

i've done plenty of lansplitting when i was in CA, but never anythihg like that, and even when i was in my 20s, i never felt the urge to stand on my seat, or use the bioike to drag myself down the street.

i used to do a lot of stupid things like that, never on the road like you see now. one of the first things i do with a bike is see how hard it is to pull the front end up and then get the rear tire up and how far can i lay it over on each side. to know ones machine is to be in balance with it. and i should get my r65 out this weekend for the shake down run. this falls into how old i think i am and not how old i am.

Well, my Kawasaki Concours certainly can with shaft drive, but it has more
than 2X the ponies and torque (and 200lbs more weight).   I have to say
that I never got the front end to lift on my 88 R100RT, but I didn't really try
to either.    In general, I like keeping both wheels on, or very close to, the ground -
turning works much better that way !
