Just an update re my recent r65 purchase

Hi guys
Managed to take my bike in to have it looked at. No one on the Gold coast wants to touch a 1983 bike. So i was given the name of this elderly guy called Ray out at  a place called Canungra - 60 Kms out of the Gold coast. I could see him wince as he heard me drive in (got the wife to follow me in the car to take me back). Anyway, he's having a look at the engine n transmission. Apparently there is  a major problem with the gear box (likely main shaft replacement). Final drive bearings, rear shocks, front gaiters and a few bits and pieces like fuel lines and rubber grips, throttle grip, all cables etc. Will know the whole list soon. I left the bike there. I have to go into Hospital for a few weeks - medical procedure - and will get the bike when I get back. Will keep u posted. Have taken a few "before" pics of the bike which I'll post. Once the bike is mechanically sound, I'll look at the beautification side of things. One thing I found out that is that I wont have to replace the front headers as they are actually STAINTUNE products and only need buffing n polishing.

thats all for now

Ivan

Hope all goes well with the medical stuff and you get a pleasant surprise that your bike doesn't need as much stuff replaced as you feared!  Please let us all know what the verdict is when you get back in touch with "Ray", OK?

I ran into the problem of folks not wanting to work on a 1980. The BMW dealer in Austin ,Texas turned me down cold. So much for dealer loyalty to their product. They gave me the name of a local who does work on old air heads but....................I hope you and your cycle are out of the hospital quickly,  both in good working condition. Keep us posted.
