Have any of you in the States seen one like this? (It is from 1981 and I just met it and its owner today at our club spring rally.)

greetings from a sunny and slightly cold north, perfect for driving though.

Yes indeed, that's an R80ST, or is in the States, anyway.
Much sought after, few in numbers,  but appearing on Ebay, ibmwr.org, etc. occasionally.
If it's for sale and won't break the bank, buy it!!

I always thought that bike, or an R80GS would be an ideal 2nd bike to own, especially for an Airhead!!   I don't know why the R80ST didn't catch on better in the states, to be honest.  It was light and nimble for an 800.  I rode one several years ago, and thought it was a sweet ride!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I've always had a hankering for one of the 80ST's. They combine the punch of an 80 with the nimble handling of a 65, and the one I got a go was a cracking bike especially on the twisty lakeland passes.

I myself was also looking for an R80ST when I found a good deal on my R65LS.
The R65Ls is fun, too, but I still drool over R80STs when I see them.   I bet
they might be even more fun with an R100 engine bolted into it...

Yeah, the R80-series in general are great bikes. They've got the same 50 hp as the R65s, but more torque for a stronger grunt, and taller gearing for more relaxed freeway flying.
Smooooooooooooooooth as glass too!

I could be quite happy with an R80, ST or otherwise...[smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Speaking of which, check out this '84 ST in Rhode Island.
The bike has a lot of pluses overall and would probably make a good ride, but, for some strange reason, the owner left it outside for eight years :o, so there's a "bit" of corrosion here and there.
Damn shame...
