Paraskavedekatriaphobia

A British Medical Journal study has shown that there is a significant increase in traffic related accidents on Friday the 13ths.[9]

The date is well-known in the motorcycle (biker) community: Since 1981, motorcycle enthusiasts and vendors gather every Friday the 13th in Port Dover, Ontario, Canada. This tradition started on November 13, 1981 by Chris Simons as a gathering of approximately 25 friends. The event has grown substantially, with an estimated 100,000 people attending in August 2004, as well as music bands, vendors, a bike show, etc.

Anyone heard of this gathering or been to it?
Hope everyone has good luck on this bad luck Friday...as long as you don't have paraskavedekatriaphobia.

The end of the day for me. Was early night before I realised it was Black Friday, and I've been riding all day. Only the usual near misses, so I guess it's a case of not knowing, then you make it through ok!! LOL

Bill.....................;-)

Weird thing happened to me at school this morning.... I was using one of the eMacs in the computer labs to type a letter, and the eMac wouldn't type "Friday, April 13, 2007"!  Every time I tried to type it, the only thing that would show up on the screen was... "Friday,  7" I even tried it on two different eMacs in the lab, and got the same result!  Weird.....On Friday the 13th, no less...

Coincidence?  Hmmmmmmm................   :-/

That's nothing.

I went on an easy 5 mile run after work, and IT RAINED ON ME briefly.

Honest, I'm still not over it.  I'll ride my R65 in the rain, but I hate running in the rain.

Yeah, I get a bit out of shape here in Western Oregon in the winter.... :-[

Yes, Aïda, Port Dover is an institution here in Ontario. Last Fri. 13th was absolutely bone chilling but riders were out there. I did not go and haven't yet although i get another crack at it in July this year. David went in the late Fall last year and there was snow on the roads and miserable as well. I am not sure about going there but I guess i will one day.

1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

Ed, I would be laid out before the first mile.

Walk, fine.  But run, well, let's just say that the bear will have a nice day!

As much as "things" are fun to go to, I, personally enjoy myself best when I am in the middle of nowhere all by myself with nowhere to be.

And the sun is shining, and I have a full tank of gas.

I agree Rob!  Although I still need my motorcycling tire-kicking fix every now and then.  But being in the business, makes that urge less strong than it once was.  We haven't done any real motorcyle gatherings in a couple of years now.  I think we're getting the bug to get back into some.  We've been hanging out at Willville enough to get a little of both...  :D

Thanks for the update, Sue.  It almost sounded a little 'Woodstock" like from what I read.  It must be fairly close to your neck of the woods, right? July should be a great time of year for some fun!

So Aida, how is Willville these days? Crowded, or not so much so?
Anything going on there over Memorial Day weekend, that you're aware of?

And I agree with Rob: I rarely am "going anywhere" when I take off on the scoot.
That's kinda part of the idea... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Not so much just yet.  They had their record snowfall for the year just last week...winter is a bit off this year.  But we had a great time last weekend.  There were about 6 campers and Graham and I took a fabulous ride out to Paint Bank, VA.  There is usually a gathering the 1st or 2nd weekend in May when he cooks up a pot of stew, but he hasn't heard from the organizers yet whether they are still planning on being there.    :-/

I never need an event anyway...we just like being there!  There are always dozens of motorcycles stopping by The Poor Farmers Market just off the parkway on any Saturday or Sunday.  It has become a gathering point for folks that ride up for the day from Greensboro, Winston-Salem or Roanoke.  Sometimes we just hang out at the store for awhile to see who stops by.  There are always a few locals on hand ready to herd up a ride and believe me, they know some great roads!!!  ;D

And if you play your cards right and become a geocacher, you might find a prize worth a free night's stay at Willville!
