Final drive pinion tool.
« on: April 06, 2020, 04:01:03 PM »
I’m just starting to tear down my engine for blasting and wondered if anyone knows where to either buy or borrow the final drive pinion tool seen in this link.

Or maybe some ideas on fashioning one out of a socket or something.

Thanks in advance

Hello,
I do not know, but what I know is to refrain making one in a steel plumbing tube.... It may work, but once. And you are left with the drive undone and nothing to put it back together..
Do you know how I know ???
Since that time we had a batch made by a pro machinist and I own one... Remember that you need a 1/2" drive at the other end to put the torque wrench....

Seems a steep price even if it is made of hardened steel.  I would still be inclined to try and make one out of a socket or perhaps a quality tube spanner.

Add to this that there is nothing to attach the torque wrench... So not a good design.
you should ask CycleWorks or Nortwood Airheads if they have something more appropriate or are willing to make one ... It is not rocket science, but need to be well designed for the task.

Thanks for the replies, that’s kind of what I’ve figured.

I’ll design something up and get it made up.

I’ve just sent off for some gearbox tools to be made like the plate for shimming, puller tool for the output and long arm wrench to hold the output shaft for nut removal.

Just trying to rebuild the gearbox and bevel drives, but design and make my own tools for the job.
