'87 R65 instrument cluster wiring
« on: February 04, 2020, 01:49:39 PM »
Hello all. I'm making great progress on returning my R65 to OEM after a previous owner attempted to make a GS out of it. Wiring is pretty much cleaned up save for the instrument cluster. Does anyone have a diagram describing the 12 points in the instrument cluster socket? Mine, as you can see in the image, was cut (and quite short). I'd like to use another 'female' end with longer wires and want to get the orientation correct. The spare that I have does not have the same male/female connectors.

I've never been inside mine, although I think I have a wiring fault since last time I was out in the dark, I had no instrument lights!

Hello !
Our French electrical BMW Guru (PizzaRoller) has devised a big fat PDF file with all you need to know about the electrical wiring of the 2 valves twins.
It is here : http://www.flatistech.com/index.php?p=obj,/61+-+Ch%C3%A2ssis-%C3%A9lectricit%C3%A9/memo_de_cablage_BMW_R.pdf
And it is called "Memo de cablage ". If I'm not mistaken, Siebenrock sell the female plug for the instruments with a set of wires attached to it. All 12 plugs have wires to adapt to the various cabling on our bikes.
Read the French PDF file. It is a tremendous job. I don't know if it can be translated by Google or Deepl but pictures are pretty universal as are the colours...
Hope this helps !
