Handlebar for '87 R65
« on: November 03, 2019, 10:28:19 AM »
Hello all. I'm new to the group so may be apt to ask 'newbie' questions. I am in the process of returning an '87 R65 to as close to OEM as possible. It was destined to a GS look-a-like complete with a 43 l tank. Crazy.

Anyway, back to the question. I've sourced a good used dash unit (fits on handlebar mount and houses the ignition key, and two toggle switches) and am trying to fit euro bars to the bike. Although the higher bars would accommodate the dash plate they look goofy as the cut outs on the dash don't line up. Also, I prefer the lower euro bar.

So, I sourced a eurobar from Germany but the controls (throttle grip and brake lever thingy) won't fit. The bar was supposed to be 22 mm but when I measured it, it was 22.15 mm. Large enough that when I forced the throttle grip on I broke it. Interestingly, my spare /5 grip wouldn't fit either. The part number (1970-85 boxer) of the handlebar that does not fit is 32712072189. My bike does not have heated grips and from what I see that is the only type that the OEM parts listing list for this application. What is the appropriate part number for the eurobar for this year?

You received 7/8 inch bars. Who did you order from? They should make it good. If they were worth their salt they would source you a grip also.  I checked Realoem.com and they show the Euro bars but there is no part# listing

That's what I figured. I've just sent them an email. They're really good about returns and have typically covered shipping costs too (although over the past decade this has only happened once before). Thanks for the reply.
