I had bags on the '82 LS I had and the racks looked like standard Krauser fare.  Or are you talking about the little rack for strapping your pack to?

Thats the one, that little luggage carrier, The straight R65 will not fit. Must of been an after market, but then,  who would have produced one with such a few bikes?

The only "bum bag holder" I've ever seen fitted to the LS was the Krauser type frames - they had options for varying the height and the "setback' of the carrier.

You can still buy the parts (at a price) from Michael Krauser, but you will have to nail a set of Krauser frames first.

The good news is that I havce a set of Krauser frames that are going to go on my R65 and a long time ago I bought the R65 specific mounting brackets just before they went NLA forever.

If you score a set of Krauser frames I will lay out the mounting brackets on sheets of graph paper and take lots of photos for you so that you have the measurements.

If I can find a picture of mine quickly I'll attach it.

 Thanks Tony,

Out of hundreds of LS's I viewed on the web there was only one that had a rack and it indeed looked like a Krauser ( added below).  Won't work for me, as I no longer have the Beemer bags on the bike.  I might see if I can locate a regular rack for a straight r65 and see if I can modify it with out it looking "home made". Any one running stock bags, this would be the "hot ticket" for sure

Hi Wilcom - when you say it won't fit, do you mean how it attaches or how the rack sits in relation to everything else.  I figured out with the plain R65, the racks sit more rearward to clear the seat and cowling when it opens.

It's hard to tell from the pic but will the seat clear that if the seat was open (does the seat open separately from the cowling on the LS?)?  The ones that I've seen like in your diagram bolt to tabs  on the side mounts.  The other style I've seen are the Reynolds racks that have the longer arms that mount to the side of the bike.

Good catch BPT................. It doesn't look like that seat will open. Now that I think about it, I don't really know why they say the stock R65 rack won't fit the LS. I was assuming(got me again) that the rack would structurally interfere with the tail section. But the issue may be as we see here, the seat won't open. Going to have to rethink that and insert facts were I now have assuptions. ::)

Here is a couple of shots of my previous R65 with standard rack. Although the perfect side shot isn't here it does look like the seat clears fine. What we need is a side shot of the two seats side by side. I will endeavor to find that ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

searching the web I see where the seat won't open and almost positive there is structural issues as well. The seat tail on my LS extends back to and covers the tail light all the way to the lens.   A lot farther than the stock seat. ( I don't know the mm conversion for "a lot"

I'm not sure if this will help but I took some pictures of mine.  I have to reduce the size to post them here but maybe you can still see the details? Let me know if you can't.  The first two are from the front end of that mounting tab and showing the end of the tail light. That looks to be about 11 1/2 American Unches.   [ch128512]

On this one I've got the ruler up against the seat hinge.  I figured that hinge should be standard between both versions?  And also you can see the other attachment points in the area plus how these relate to the other parts of the bike here.

BPT, it looks like Reynolds is another option. I noticed the rack you posted earlier appears to be a Reynolds. I'm not a Reynolds fan as a lot of the stuff they produced looked ( and I'm being nice) "industrial"
