LS Dash pad fix, broken tabs
« on: March 26, 2018, 06:29:34 PM »
I broke the remaining tab off my LS dash pad while installing bars and hand guards. ( 1 step forward, 2 steps back :-[)

I checked all resident fix's here on the site and searched the web. There was a couple of fixes that used Velcro, but for the life of me I couldn't see any place there were mating surfaces to use velcro.

I fashioned the following fix and it is nice and tight and is not going anywhere, at least at R65 speeds, it isn't going anywhere.

I made a wedge out of aluminum and formed it to the contour of the headlight shell. I then hammered/bent the tabs down until it fit the wedge formed by the headlight and the fairing. I used 3M hook & hook(much more ridged than hook & loop)  tape on both sides of the wedge and it seems to hold down the front of the fairing quite well.

It will take a second try to make it better. as you can see from the final pic there is a gap around the headlight where fairing doesn't set down tight enough. A little alteration to the design and placement should cure that. For now, it's secured and I can ride. Perfection is for another day, but it looks like I'm going in the right direction. Hope the pics gives a clear pic of what I did.
