Looks like Michelin  is starting to put the Macadam out to pasture.  But I'm moving up in the world...They are making the Pilot Activ in the 4.00H18 size so all is not lost.  

I'll let your know how it goes as I'm starting to get quotes.

Well this is a few years in the making but since you didn't finish, maybe I can help.

Put them on when I first finished the refresh and replaced the 20 year old Metzlers.
I now have a little over 6K miles on them (highway and twisty country roads) and still have the mold nubs on both. They are still round, have 5/32" tread, carry 36 lbs of air, grab the corners, dig in when its wet, flex when they need to and stiffen up at the right times.  The front is a 90/90 and the rear is a 120/90. They cost $250 installed with Dyna-Beads. Maybe the best tire I've ever run.
How's that for a review Semper Gumby?

That is on both ends. No tubes. Not sure where they are made, will have to look when I get home but I know they were made 3 months before I put them on.

I've just checked. Mine are made in Czech republic. (Sold in Europe, though)

I have never ridden on Pilot Actives, but did have a R65 for a short time that was shod with Macadam's.

That bike with the Macadam's was the best handling scoot of any Beemer I've owned. Fell into corners beautifully. stable in any condition, great feed back, made be feel like Valentino Rossi

Of you folks that have  ridden on both, can I expect the same with the Pilot Active's? If so I could break my "Cheap Charlie" mold and spend some earnest money the next time I need tires.

The Macadam line had been my favorite for years and I'm hoping the Pilot will be at least as good.  As soon as I get motivated I am going to install them tubeless...

Great tires, I don't think you can go wrong.
My buddy put a pair on his '91 K100 RS and was blown away by the difference. He said they allowed him to ride it like he used to 20 years ago, whatever that means... 8-)

That is good
 I just hate spending that much for a tire made in China
The Avon's believe it or not are made in great Briton
The last Metzeler I used was made in Brazil not Germany

Actually, if you want a German tire, you've to buy Heidenau ;-)
And maybe the high end Continental ....

I found them to be a huge pain to get mounted. Seating the bead was not easy! I do like riding on them, though :-)

Unless you find some reason to believe they've changed manufacturing such that they're now easier to mount, I'd start with all the tricks in the book (smooth clean bead seat, warm tire, tire lube, high volume air if possible...)
