Battery Recommendation
« on: February 12, 2018, 06:18:42 PM »
My battery is beginning to show it's age and I want to get something new before I get stranded. Anyone have a recommendation? More interested in reliability than lowest price. Thanks, David

Some think I am stupid for spending the extra but I have an Odyssey and I run it at 14.6 volts
I do a lot of traveling and just want the peace of mind

I think most AGM's  will do OK
You will want to get your charging voltage up to about 14.3 for most AGM's
just don't waist your time with a flooded battery

But what I do find unnecessary is a Lithium Ion
That is just what I need

I've been happy with the UB 12220 that was recommended here on the forum.  Holds a charge and you can get them for about $45 shipped.

I'm exactly 4 years now on a cheap generic AGM similar to the UB 12220 above. Still performs like new.  I paid £32 for it.

I have the UB in all of our bikes, R65, R100, and R1150 - they are great!

I used to wonder if these generic batteries had the same cranking amps as a "proper" motorcycle battery but if they work for you Justin on the R100 what more can we need.

Personalized valet service with pre and post ride rub downs, including cold beverage delivery?

Anyways, I have a generic AGM battery and agree that flooded types are not worth the trouble even if they were free.  I'm on my second AGM, they only thing I don't like is their failure mode is very binary compared to flooded batteries.  For example, last time mine failed it stranded me on the side of the road!

Barry - In the R100, with 36 year old Bosch starter, it cranked frighteningly slow but after putting in the new Valeo type starter it cranks like crazy!  ;D
