New Battery
« on: January 30, 2018, 10:15:45 PM »
Just took my 83 R65 out for the first ride of the year on Sunday. As I charged the battery up in preparation, it got hot and struggled to start the bike. Any recommendations for a new battery? Had an Odyssey die on me in my R100 so not interested in that brand. Thanks for any ideas, David

$41.29 + shipping ( they are in Phoenix, about $16 for you)

Here's a link to the Gruber battery .

http://www.gruberpower.com/12-volt-18-amp-hour-ah-battery

Here's a higher amp hour battery that will fit the R65 .

http://www.staabbattery.com/product/UB12220-V.html

You could try doing an online search for  UB12220, seems to be available in a lot of retail sites, may do better on price locally, plus no shipping charge .

Gruber is local for me, so all the bikes have their 18 AH battery, don't know what kind of service life to expect in your locale, batteries here in the low desert, last about the same no matter what you get, usually 30-36 months on average .

I got the UB12220 after reading about it here.  It's been great for me, especially with my infrequent riding as of late.

As Wilcom said about the one from Gruber, the UB12220 can also sit a while but the voltage hardly drops.  I got mine on Amazon (there are various sellers there)  and  got free shipping.
