Gear lube leak

Was getting whiffs of gear lube while riding. Found the rear crossover exhaust pipe was wet in spots with gear lube. See a drop or two of gear oil at the bottom seam of the trans rear cover looks like it may actually be coming from the shifter shaft seal. I seem to recall someone else here had this same type of leak a while back. This is a simple fix...right?? new seal..easy? Common wear item?  Looking for words of wisdom before I order up a "SHAFT SEAL 26X16X7 23121338740"

This is about a 30 minute job.

I drained the oil out of the trans, the other way is to rest the bike on the right cylinder.

So which ever you choose, just be careful about removing the oil seal, so you don't gouge the area where the seal sits.

Make sure you get it in straight, or you may have the shifting problem that I found a few weeks ago.

I had a small leak in that area on my rebuilt transmission, but for me, it was just a matter of tightening up the  allen bolt on the shifter rod - it seemed to snug things up enough and there is no further leakage.  I was preparing for having to change the seal, but lucked out.
