Hi all,

So i have been meaning to modify  my bike into more of a cafe racer/scrambler and one idiotic night i had a rush of blood to the screw driver and practically pulled the bike apart. when coming out of my Ecstasy i ran from the scene leaving the bike apart for a few weeks.

i have reassembled the parts (engine was not touched and most of wiring)

when i hit the ignition as it fires it lets out an exhale of air from the engine hole and then starts slowly looses its ability to try and start.

i understand this could be alot of things and that im a bloody moron for tinkering.

The drilled hole in the engine case, that you have a picture of, is a drain for moisture for the starter moter .

Hi Tommie, firstly it sounds like you will need to charge your battery since it is probably flat after trying to start it previously.  Have the carbs been off?  If so they may not have been full of fuel when you first tried to start her.  I take it you've tried to start it a few times.  The same old rules apply - for an engine to start they need fuel, air and a spark.  I'd check for good fuel flow first by turning on the fuel switch for 10 secs, turn the fuel off then remove the carb bowls, observing they are at least half full, turn the fuel switch on again and check for fuel supply by holding the float up.  Fuel should flow out.

If all ok there, put the carb bowls back on and check for spark by taking the spark plugs out and taping them to the cylinder cooling fins in a place where you can observe for spark while holding down the start button. The spark plugs must be securely held by the tape to the cooling fins otherwise you may damage the electrics. Don't use your hand to hold it down unless you like touching electric fences :D

If both these tests work out ok, it should be able to start.  Take off the air filter. Full choke, turn on ignition key and hit the starter, give her a bit of throttle after a couple of secs if she doesn't fire straight away.

You can also check that the breather hole near the starter motor is fitted with it's rubber and this rubber goes into the air box...
