Tank Knee Pads

Hi again - can anyone recommend a way to glue or otherwise fix the rubber knee pads to the petrol tank please. I have experimented with double sided sponge tape and a standard household general purpose glue but I'm not that happy with the results so far. Thanks ..... Adrian

3M makes a rubbery heavy-duty double-stick tape that'll just about pull paint off.

Thanks guys I went for liquid nails after taking all the advice from various places.

And Tony - I never used to have knee pads but after several years of use after the last rebuild in 1996 - my knees eventually rubbed off the paint on the tank. So I bought some BMW pads from another model that had a similar shape and size of tank. They sit just perfect :-)

There's a 3m product I've always known as monkey snot.  I used it on older cars, especially VW's for sticking door seals and other rubber trim parts on. Would that be the emblem stuff?

They called it snot because it was slightly greenish. It was sticky as hell but, if you needed to, you could pull it off and it wouldn't strip the paint.
