Antigravity battery = anyone tested it ?
« on: February 25, 2016, 01:21:23 PM »
Hi all, I'm in process to modify my R65 in cafe racer. I have finalized the wiring loom and want to put a small case battery such as antigravity. However, it costs few$$... 8 cells for 179$ and 12 cells for 219$. my concern is about the place and i'm looking for a 8 cells.

Anyone tested it or same kind of batteries ?

The guy from Antigravity said me that 12 cells should be better if I plan to have long trips... and 8 cells if it's just for town used... Does anyone can explain me why the distance could influence the choice of a battery ? can I discharge my 8 cells battery with a longer trip ?

Thanks for time !

I'm assuming this battery is a lithium-ion type battery .

Have not heard much about them in the last 2 years, but they seemed to have issues when the temperature got below 55 F,13 C .

Have problems providing enough power to operate the starter .

It makes no sense to me. A longer trip would charge the battery better, shorter trips would require more capacity if the battery didn't get charged enough. The extra cells should be able to supply more current and for a longer time. LiFe batteries are better than LiCo and it seems they are temperature sensitive.

Thanks for input. I found few] answers :

First a new regulator/rectifier is needed: these batteries don't like modulation of current.
Second agree with you i do not understand the relation btweeen long trip ans chnarging
Third : agree with cold morning. But i m going to test

Fourth: Special battery charger required. Quite pricey, too.

Fifth: Should you ever let the lithium-ion battery go completely flat, it's usually toast.

2 things I've heard about lithium batteries:

They don't like cold and need a pre-start current draw warming technique to deliver their best at low temperatures.

While the cranking amp performance is impressive the AH rating is rubbish and you can't take too much notice of the PB equivalent AH claims.

If I wanted to use a physically small battery I would first replace the starter with the Denso or Valeo  type that needs the least current draw. That would minimise the the performance required of the battery.  Now even a smaller than stock battery of the conventional type would do the job. An AGM battery could be smaller still. Do Odyssey make a small battery ?   If not there will be other AGM's that do.  Only if the smallest AGM that would do job is still too big would I consider lithium.

I had a long chat with the folks at Deltran about lithium iron phosphate batteries. They are the makers of the Battery Tender line of battery chargers/maintainers and have a line of LiFePO4 batteries. They also happen to be located across the street from my go to BMW guru. I know they have an interest in selling their products but they insisted that a Battery Tender brand can safely be used on any LiFePO4 battery but not on a Li-ion battery,

The LiFePO4 batteries are comparable in size and performance to Li-ion batteries without most of the side effects associated with Li-ion batteries.

I was going to use one on my R65LS but couldn't justify the cost to myself as I had a fairly new AGM battery that was working fine. If I had needed a battery then I might have bought one. Instead I made a black leather bag around the existing battery to "hide" it in place.

Damm!

I saw the subject and got excited.
Anti-gravity batteries?

I thought, maybe hovering R65s, lasers and attacks by aliens in space.

But all you guys are on about is some BRAND NAME of a battery.

I am so disappointed.

do you reckon a flux coil would fit under the ducktail?

hi tony, I understand your disappointment... Antigravity is a cool name for my new interstellar space R65.  ;)

Anyway I bought one in promotion for 125$US... 8 cells. I will send input after testing it.

Thanks

Discounted "Anti-Gravity" batteries are now being relabeled as moto-batts, using the banned Chinese-made Hoverboard power packs. They still lack the required flux capacitor. Watch for bikes suddenly bursting into flames.

Damm how I want a flux capacitor and a Mr Fusion cold fusion power source.....

Actually I am hiding here for a while after making myself very unpopular in the airheads facebook group.

A guy has posted before and after photos of the "cafe" conversion he has done to an R45.

In the before photo is a very well preserved, utterly original R45. In the after photo the sub-frame has been cut, a plank fitted instead of a seat, the front and rear mudguards (and fork brace) removed, along with the air box. The usual K&N type pod air-cleaners are fitted to the upturned remnants of the plastic pipes. Og and the original instruments and headlight are gone also and replaced with crap.

Anyway, he did invite comment, so my comment was "I hope you kept all the bits you took off to create that monstrosity".

It ain't an anti-gravity battery unless it's made of di-lithium!

Hi Guys it's just an update : Ballistic battery so Lithium works perfectly on a R65" i ran with mine until march, with some trouble on the carb ajustement, so at this time, is forced it a lot to start and there's no problem... battery recharges well... so good alternative for small LI battery. Just to mentionne : it's a 12 cells.
