How do you set these floats?

Anyone have the foggiest idea as to how to set this type of float?

While in the process of adjusting the float level, I believe I found the reason  they were set too high.  The needle had worn a notch in the brass tab that pushes against it (the needle valve) to stop the gas flow.  I have bent the tab to compensate for the wear, and put the floats at the proper level, but I'm wondering if that notch can be repaired in some way?  And does anyone know where parts for this float system can be had?

The independent floats came as a kit and an expensive one at that so they are relatively rare.  You could try the Bing agency for spares. Failing that anything made of brass is easy to repair with soft solder.
