Electronic Advance Ign Module where to Buy
« on: March 06, 2016, 10:20:27 PM »
Does anyone know were on line they have an Ign module with the advance built into it.
I have looked a several on line stores and they do not show the module separately
I want to lock out the mechanical advance in my Bean can and just use an electronic advance type Module.
I am going to install a back up hall affect sensor and thought it would be a good idea to do this also.

Welcome to the "BMW are idiots for keeping bob-weight advance and retard" club.

There is no magic ICU sold separately that allows you to dispense with the bob weights.

Your choices are:-

Red Center (Emerald Is)ignition system
Boyer Bransden
_______________?

Of them all I have 30plus years experience with Boyer Bransden and wish I had fitted one the very first time BMW's silly Hall effect system played up.

John Olive is an honest player, but heck that red center ignition is expensive./.....

You other option is to make sure that your stock BMW system is the best it can be.

Hello !
A couple of years ago, a French forum put together resources to have a BMW Airhead in a race. They used a programmable ignition system able to use a cartographic advance system.
I do not know if it  turned into a commercial system and on what type of ignition it replaced, points or bean can.
The team (which won) was called Flatisteam and the forum is called Flatistan.

The programmable ignition I wrote about is a Czech made unit : http://www.ignitech.cz/cz/
Maybe Google can translate the Czech for you ?

In USD the red center ignition  kit John Olive sells is about $50 less than what you'd pay in the states & he helped me quite a bit with tech support!
