Hello !
Context : 1982 made R65. Has around 200 000 km. I bought her new in '84 so can't blame the PO.
In 2012 I started rebuild her. Bits by bits. I've addressed everything except the engine main bearings and the cylinders and pistons. (new rings though). Valve train was rebuild in 1994 at 120 000 km.
She runs fine and is willing to go up to red line in 5th gear with a pilot weighting 102 kg.
But suddenly, since a fortnight I'm unable to go above 5000 RPM in fifth gear in full throttle. If i get her in 4th everything's fine and she goes up to the red line.
If I back up the throttle a bit it seems to ease her a bit and she goes a little faster without crossing the 5k rpm barrier.
I've checked the valve lash and it is good.
I've checked oil consumption and it is normal.
I've checked carb balance and it is good.
I've checked fuel flow and it is double the minimum figure CHITECH gives on their literature. Tested on both carbs, one at a time.
I've checked air filter (put a new one) and it is OK.
I've checked the plugs and they are fine (less than 5 000 km on them).
I've checked static advance and it is good.
I've tried to vaporize Start Pilot around the rubber between carbs and head to see if there was an air leak. No, none.
I've checked the main jet and the mixing and emulsion chamber of both carbs. It's OK.
I've the factory prescribed jets and needle position in carbs which where totally rebuild in 2013 (needles, jets, gaskets, floats, diaphragms, you name it).
I've the right plug getting a strange red color on the porcelain. Brick red.
I've noticed that if I open the choke when in fifth gear and throttle wide open she goes further the 5K rpm barrier. .....
So as I'm out of options and would like to go on a ride next week to enjoy this very hot winter we have, I ask for help.
What do you think ? What should I check ?
Thanks in advance for your advice or garlic and Holly water !
