handle bar plastic dash pad

I am trying to figure out why the dash pad on my 83 R65 has been cut to fit between the handlebars. Can someone offer up some thoughts?

Because the instruments and dash pad are off another model.

The style of instruments you have were not fitted to the R65 until it went monolever. I have never owned an airhead recent enough to know where the pad came from.

I typed the wrong year, it is an 86. I had an issue with my 83 Goldwing on my mind. Does that change anything?

Could be the bike came with flat bars and the previous owner changed to bars with more rise,  resulting in the need to notch the pad.

The previous owner could have done a neater job of it.  I guess with a little patience you could make it look more like it was meant to be.

A little work with a Dremel tool followed by careful use of a flame to flame polish the cut edge would go a long way to improving the look.
Keep your bike in good repair: motorcycle boots are not comfortable for walking.

Thank for the replies. Would anyone have a picture of what the stock bars look like with the pad? I have been unable to find athing on the net.
Thanks in advance

After another look at my bars, it looks like they have been changed out and rotated rearward. I am going to se how they look and feel rotated forward to clear the pad.  I will look for a replacement pad and use it if all looks good, if not I will cut the new pad to have a more profesional look.
Thanks for all the feedback.
This is my first Beemer and I am enjoying it.

Here's an eBay item you may be interested in. Unmolested dash pad and only $15.00. I'd jump on that like a skunk on a June Bug

Thanks for the lead. Tough part is the shipping to Canada is $27! I may have to grin and bear it.
