A few questions....

Hoping someone out there with knowledge will be able to help with a few questions.

1. Where does the tank breather hose get routed normally? Mine was missing one when I bought it.

2. I've installed an acewell 2856 and everything works except the rpm monitoring from the coil wire. I have wound the yellow wire around the inner lead and it doesn't seem to register anything when running.any suggestions?

3. Gen light. I have tapped into the black/green wire from the front brake switch and the blue wire which went to the original gen light leading to a 12v led I was going to use as a gen light. It lights up with the ignition, but doesn't seem to go out when started and revving. Just wondering if the wiring is correct or whether I need to use the green/blue?

I've also noticed that the bike smells of petrol a bit. I have no leaks, but there just seems to be a lingering smell of fuel now that I have started the bike after the rebuild.

Any help with the above is much appreciated.

The tank overflow just gets routed to keep fuel off of a hot engine, I just out mine right next to the engine .

I'm sure someone that has installed the unit you have can correct me  if I'm wrong, but you need to connect the tachometer wire from the Acewell, directly to the ignition coil .

The GEN light needs to be connected to the light blue wire that is the wire from the voltage regulator, also the charging system will not work with an LED as the GEN indicator light, unless you have placed a resistor inline with the LED, the LED doesn't draw enough current to get the charging system going .

A fuel smell, may be over filled carb float bowls, or leakage at the various hose connections .

There also is a seal around the inside of the fuel cap, if it is the original, it may be hardened, cracked, missing, etc ....

I have the model of acewell without the gen light indicator so it needs the external light. The led I have also has a resistor inline to work with 12v and it works fine, just doesn't go out.

Fuel cap rubber has been replaced, but I think maybe the right carb is filling too much. It had more fuel inwhen I checked than the left side when I did a few pre start checks. Carbs have been cleaned and checked, but might see if the carb levels out with use.

For the purposes of the charging system operation you need a resistor in parallel with your led and it's series resistor.  If it's a bare led then it needs the series to limit the current the correct level but that's by the way.

The problem is the original gen lamp will have passed approx. 200mA which was enough to excite the rotor magnetic field. The led with it's correct series resistor will only pass approx. 30mA which is not enough. The parallel resistor will pass the extra current needed to excite the rotor.  It need not be sized for the full 200mA but needs to be a lot more than 30.

If a normal bulb is used instead of the led are there any issues or would it work straight off?

I wish I could find you a diagram but the important thing is the parallel resistor goes across both the led and it's series resistor. If you just put it across the led it won't work.

A normal bulb would work just fine.

Some here have done the led mod and will no doubt chip with the resistor value they used.

Look under the heading R65 Technical FAQ/Procedures for  GEN Light Auxiliary Circuit.  Done by our own MontMil and it tells exactly what is needed. I installed a resistor when I removed my stock instruments and went to a set of led indicator lights. Used this method and have never had an issue.
Keep your bike in good repair: motorcycle boots are not comfortable for walking.

Found a pic of the resistor I installed to show the white plug to tap into. The other end goes to the coil.

Thanks for the help.
Resistor installed and all working fine. I have a back up 12v bulb, should the led cease to work correctly.

Installed everything in the headlight bucket so nice and tidy.
