Cable lengths for low bars on R65LS??
« on: July 04, 2014, 05:27:15 PM »
Just got some cables for my R65LS with the shorty low bars and although I specified this with great care to the supplier they seem to be a bit too long, they are probably for standard bars on an R65.
Can anyone give me a correct length for clutch and if possible throttle and choke uppers and lowers?
The old cables that came off were the wrong size so I was unable to establish that the new ones were wrong until they were fitted.
I've had a good scout around on the internet but there seems to be conflicting measurements.
Thanks for any help on this.

How short are your bars?   Mine are considerably shorter than stock and the OEM cables did not end up in the way of anything.

They are the standard short low black bars (European market I think) and the new clutch cable has a big curve in it behind the headlamp causing it to be stiff. Also the throttle/choke cables bend backwards from the carbs before looping forwards towards the splitter.

After much searching, from what I can see the LS short bar clutch cable should be 1361mm and the one I have is 1436mm.

Also my lower throttle cables were supplied the same size and it looks like one should be shorter, i'm guessing to allow for the splitter being on one side of the frame tube.

I don't have any measurements, but I can tell you the lower choke cables are longer than the lower accelerator cables.  From side to side, though, the accelerator cables match each other and the choke cables match each other.  The splitters are more or less centered on the bike and all the adjustment is done by changing just the upper cable.
