Throttle cable routing

Just replacing the throttle cables on my R65LS and the old one (which is not original) is routed from the twist grip, down between the instrument bracket and yoke (tight space) and round the steering lock then through the small triangular hole in the side of the headstock and below the tank.

Is this correct, as it seems a bit torturous?
