New bike stand

Hello folks !
Today I've got a new centre stand. Brand new from BMW. Exact item for my VIN according to the BMW classic shop.
It will fit perfectly if it won't touch the exhaust tube on the left side (the lever is not round/long enough to clear the tube)...
As the old one had a very distorted and quite totally destroyed lever, I wonder where is the problem ? could it be the rubber boot on the frame not long enough ?
What do you think ? Did one of you had a similar problem ?

What BMW part number stand do you have

Sounds like you may have a later version stand .

I got one off of eBay only to find that the '81 R65 I have, doesn't have the upstop welded to the frame for this stand, both of my LS's have the sheet metal stop with a rubber bumper .

I had to 'jury rig ' a fix until i get a piece of angle metal made up and welded to the frame .

If you can post a picture, I'll see if it matches what I have .

The bike is an '82 R65 (bought new in '84...) I bought the stand from the BMW classic shop and it is P/N  46 52 2 301 594 which is the correct P/N for my bike according to them.
There is a sheet metal angled stop welded to the frame. it looks like a V rotated left 90°. On this is a rubber shock absorber which is too short to reach the stand.
The stand looks exactly the same (but in better shape .....) than the old one and replacing it was a 10 minute job. So I guess BMW sold me the correct P/N.
I'm wondering if the rubber bumper is the correct one ?

You are lucky that BMW made some attempt at providing a stop on the later bikes. At least it might be improved. The early bikes have nothing and rely on the longer left leg of the stand hitting the lower frame tube. It's hardly satisfactory and tends to result in metal to metal contact when the rubber bung in the end of the stand wears out and is eventually pushed into the tube. I add a large diameter split rubber tube to the frame to act as and additional shock absorber.

I recall that someone posted a neat solution years back that involved the use of an exhaust rubber hanger which was neatly fastened to the frame tube with zip ties. You might find it with a search.

It sounds like the bike has the correct upstop, the rubber bumper is only 10 mm thick so I don't think that's the problem .

So,
I double and triple checked the centre stand. It seems it is not made correct.
When stowed, the right hand leg touches the clutch lever before the left hand leg has a chance to go up to the rubber bump. The lever to deploy the stand touches also the exhaust tube.
I can't tell if the tube is touched first or if it is the clutch lever which get hit first....
I don't know if I can modify the radius of the stand with my limited tube knowledge and tooling....
Of course, as the stand has served for a week I can't return it ! Grrrrr
