Would you use this Pressure Plate?

I received my order from Motobins today. The pressure plate was wrapped in bubble wrap and a cardboard sleeve and put in a paper mailing envelope with all the other items. After being tossed around for 2 weeks and 5,000 miles, it came out looking like this:

Not only that, but the envelope had split open and had to be taped shut by my local post office. Apparently, the neutral switch I ordered fell out somewhere along the way.  

Now, I'm not trying to publicly pitch a beef against Motobins, I fully expect this to turn out well. I'm trying to get opinions on whether I should even consider using this pressure plate. I know what I think.

After taking the package to the US Postal office nearest you, first thing I would do, is to dispute the charges with your credit card issuing bank .

I would blame Motobins, that pressure plate should have been in a box, not an envelope .

It's a heavy part with a thin edge on the sheet metal flange of the plate, throw it once and the envelope will be cut open .  :-/

Might be better if he contacts Motobins first and gives them a chance to make it right before disputing the charges.  If it was me, I'd ask Motobins to resend the order in a box, with expedited shipping, free of charge.

But back to the question... I'm sure you're thinking straight Al.  I wouldn't think of putting that in a motorcycle.

I do blame Motobins, but I'm going to give them a chance to make it right before I consider other options. It's a damn shame, but stuff happens.

Include the photo along with your comments. The shipping department individual needs this issue brought to his/her attention.

Keep your temper in check while you write your email of concern.
'Bins will make it right.

Now... Go out and continue refurbishing that R65. A few beers will help.

A side note; my new master cylinder from MB also came in an envelope. It was wrapped in copious amounts of bubble wrap but still, when ordering a $150 part that is to be shipped a long way I would have thought a box would be a minor concern for the added protection. But all is well after all and I hope to be out riding in the near 80°F weather this weekend.

After I declined their initial offer of a partial refund on the damaged part, Motobins has agreed to ship a replacement pressure plate, along with the missing neutral switch, free of charge.

All good, bravo Motobins!

Well good on them.  Hopefully it wasn't much of a hassle to get to their second offer.

I only ever placed one (large) order with them.  I actually wrote them because it got here quickly and was superbly packed.  Depending on how your situation turned out I was thinking I'd leave them as a one trick pony.

I am glad that they've done the proper thing to make it right - I've only had good experiences with them, but I haven't bought anything from them in the past year.

Sounds like some wingnut rookie is working in their shipping department now..

Now they tell me the only one they have left in stock is also damaged, but not as bad as mine. I can have that one, or a refund.   guess ill take the refund and buy a known good one locally.

If you don't go with a replacement neutral switch from the bins, bmw2valve.com has an aftermarked neutral switch in stock, pn: 6131097  Looks to be all brass, like the improved, aftermarket switch that Motobins sells.

The situation ' sucks ', but at least Motobins is refunding your money .

I give them credit for doing what is right for the customer .

But I do question their offer of reduced price, when they know as well as you do, that the part may not work correctly when you install it, then you are stuck with a bad part with no recourse .
