Speedo cable retaining bolt.

There was no bolt holding the cable into the trans & not much of a boot left.
Replaced boot & found a allen head bolt that fit.
I read that the proper bolt should be hollow to allow ventilation of transmission.
I have searched the partsfiche & do not find this part listed. Maybe not looking in correct location.
Anyone know the part# for this part. Or if in fact it is hollow. I wonder if the bolt I installed is contributing to the leaking of trans oil into the boot on my bike.
The oil has not leaked out of the boot except when I removed the clamps to clean & inspect the boot.

The hollow bolt number is BMW part number: 23111230599, the wave washer part number : 07119932099.

You could also drill axially through your current bolt with a small drill as well.  The hole is the vent for the transmission and it is possible that no vent could cause a bit of leak when everything was up to operating temp.

 Installed correct bolt & shifting is much better now.
No vent seems to make tranny very angry when warmed up.
My riding was progressing farther & farther away from home. As confidence grew that I would not have to truck the bike back home. I do not have trailer & loading it in back of truck not fun. As you surely know.
 Well the tranny would warm up & not shift unless rolling. I lazily brake to stop alot, not down shifting. Getting  back to first at stop was impossble. I would have to roll bike & tickle clutch then it would clunk into first very angrily.
Not so now. Still running the synthetic lube in tranny & drive.

That is good to hear!  I always wondered what kind of symptoms the no-vent would be.
