Rear shock absorbers

Just a very small question (maybe to save a bit of dismantling): some dreaded PO has fitted the rear shocks on my 79 the wrong way round, that is, with adjust levers facing outward (so they hit luggage equipment). I must turn them to face inward, which is the correct way anyhow. Is it possible to turn just the lower half of the units, or do I have to remove them altogether? Thx.

I think you're asking about the Boge shocks were originally fitted. If so, I recall the same issue on one of my R65s before I dumped 'em for Hagons. Anyway, I think you can just crank the levers around the cam.

At least try it. You'll know immediately by the "feel" of spring tension.

I ran into the same problem with my '82, the shocks hit the back of the bags when adjusted.
I just swapped them left for right, and vice versa.

Be sure to have a piece of wood, a 2x4 works nicely, a bit longer than the length of the shock, so you can prop up each side while the shock there is being removed. Trying to support everything, if working alone, while lining up the bushings and bolt holes can be a bit of a b*tch.  [smiley=tongue.gif]

Or, as Monty suggested, remove the stock shocks altogether and replace them with a pair of Hagons. $200 and all of your problems will be solved, and the ride much improved!
