Cleaning high beam switch
« on: June 28, 2013, 10:32:46 AM »
Over the years, the high beam switch on my 1982 has gotten a little sticky.  When I try to momentarily "flick" the high beam, it stays on high does not drop back to low.  Can anyone recommend a good cleaner or process for cleaning it up (hopefully without dismanteling and removal)?

I'm on my 2nd replacement switch assembly on my '81 R65 .

You can try a cleaner, I'd stay away from contact cleaner, it used to be detrimental to certain types of plastic materials .

You can try something like alcohol to get things cleaned up, but my experience has been, the plastic parts in the switch have worn .

The switch is not 'user friendly', to take apart .

If you do decide to attempt to disassemble it, do so inside a large clear plastic bag, to contain the parts that may try to escape and be forever lost .  ;D ;D ;D

Take this opportunity to replace the left hand switch assembly with the euro spec one.. it's got the headlight on off switch.

I've done that twice.  It would be nice if the switches had some moderate serviceability to them.
