daft question time...is there a torque setting for crash bars? it'll be the first ones i've had on a bike since 75 with my gt185 ! dont want to squash the tubes , as its only 8mm i was going to use between 13-18 lbs feet.

never heard of such a thing, unless the torque spec came with the install instructions when first purchased. You should be fine with your 13-18.

I think the German torque specification is "guttentite".  8-)

Perhaps add a wavy washer and/or some thread locker juice.

i was looking at a bike on that ebay and the frame had been dameged by over tightened crash bars , an old triumph actually. spring washers are standard with me!

Your torque figure sounds fine.

It's a personal thing but I took crash bars off as in a spill there is the possibility crash bars will damage the frame. Airheads have built in crash protection called valve covers and they are cheaper to replace than crash bars. OK valid only for low speed spills, in a high speed spill I won't care what happens to the bike only what happens to me.

thats true! i was thinking more in day to day assaults on car wings in traffic situations actually! valve covers are getting expensive, these were only 30 quid. what you think?
