Idle Speed Adjustment
« on: April 19, 2013, 12:34:17 PM »
My (new to me) R65 idles around 900-950 RPM per the tachometer once warm. It seems steady enough but if I open the throttle just a hair, sounds more 'reliable'. She hasn't coughed at a light yet but sometimes I do wonder if today's going to be the day... then 'll find out the battery really isn't charging properly (I kind of wonder sometimes) and so much for quitting smoking...
If one wanted to just raise idle RPM a tad, say 100 RPM, what is the simplest (read least disturbing) way of doing it? Carbs were rebuilt and set-up by RePsycle from whom I bought the bike. I don't want to upset their good work, just raise the idle speed a touch.
Thanks,
Jeremy

You need to adjust  the idle screw that the throttle arm on the outside of the carb rests on .

You should be able to adjust want you want without having to perform a carb balance .

But you should check the balance, it doesn't take much misadjustment between the carbs to cause them to be out of balance .

I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

The throttle stop screws will be quite sensitive. You'll be turning them in (clockwise) by a very small amount. Try no more than the width of the screw driver slot on each side which should be enough to increase the idle speed.

If the screws are like mine they will have flat sides which helps to record their alignment. Consider doing a little sketch or taking a picture to record the original positions.

Remember each screws start position and turn each side an equal amount. I would start by turning each one about equal to one hour on a watch face.
