Rubber carb grommets

After replacing a bunch of stuff over the last year or so, I'm now noticing the original(?) rubber connectors between the carbs and cylinders are 'petrified'. The bike is running fine, and I would just as soon not touch them if this is a case of 'just leave it alone dummy'. Is replacement definitely recommended or is this an item that just stays forever until it needs to be disassembled?

The rubber cracks up with age which doesn't look so good but the damage may only be on the surface. If you can tolerate how they look then the only issue is do they leak.  They are very easy to replace if necessary and there is no need to disturb the carb balance.

Ray,

If you re-use the originals try to reassemble them in the same position as they came off - they grow deep impression valleys which can be substantial depending on how old they are.  A quick and easy way to check the old collars for leaks is to spray some Carb Cleaner or Brake Cleaner on both collar ends and collar body while the engine is idling.  If you notice a change in idle speed, chances are they are leaking and need to be replaced.  Or the connections are not air tight.
