fuel shut off lever

I know this is a dumb question but, is the lever down for on and up for reseve or the other way around ?

With the lever down, you are in the on position, lever up reserve and lever either forward or pointed to the rear is off .

Don't know how long you have owned the bike, but one LS that I got, wouldn't shut off in the off position, the rubber washer inside had worn to the point of allowing fuel to flow .

May want to check this on occasion .

Where does the fuel line attach to your fuel tap, at the 6 o'clock, or 3 o'clock position ?

If it goes on at the 6 o'clock position, there is a small fine mesh plastic filter screwed into the nut that threads onto the fuel tap body, check it occasionally for blockage .

I'm new to the bike, but have several other bikes and just wanted to make sure they were all on the same page. Didn't want to run low and flip the lever and find out I was already on reseve.

FWIW, I don't consider it a dumb question. I haven't ridden in quite some time, and I had to think about it for a moment. It's hell when one's brain turns to mush (I'm speaking of myself alone, of course.   )

My own dumb question—fueled by being off the bike, and having poor memory:  I can't remember if reserve is the left or right side of the tank (from sitting-on-the-bike POV). I'd hate to exhaust my reserve first and have to lay the bike down (gently, I hope) to transfer fuel to reserve, only to find that I had laid the bike on the wrong side.   (in my own defense, I submit that the bike is spending the winter in the shop, so I can't go to my garage and pop the fuel cap to refresh my recollection.)

The reserve is on the left. Apparently, if your reserve runs out, you can lean the bike over to the left to access the 0.4 gallons remaining on the right side that the petcock can't access when the bike is level.
This is from Noemi Berry's FAQ about the R65. I have not yet had to find out myself.

It works just fine and has got me out of trouble twice now although you do have to lean the bike a long way over.  As an alternative the tank comes off so easily you can lift and tilt it to the left with the fuel line still attached - easier on the back !

And since all you've got left for fuel is about 0.4 gallon, the tank is certainly not heavy.
