Hi, i bought an r90 tank from the Netherlands on ebay and was wondering if anybody here has done it. Also what they used as a rear mount and where they moved the electrics. So far ive angle grinded all the electic mounts off of the frame!!!!!!

That's the wrong tank for this application. I believe the 86-95 airheads have the tank that will fit without a bunch of modifications.

Now you've got the problem of relocating the electrics plus modifying the mounts. The R90 had all the electrics in the headlight, so it's a good question where they'll go now.

As mentioned above, you are now going to have to fabricate the R90 frame mounts.  And relocate all your electrics - Having said that you should still have some room under there as you do not have an under the tank master cylinder and all that gubbins.

I personally would not go down the route of having all your electrics in the headlight - especially if any sort of nose fairing is being considered.

Good luck.

CafeRR

Have you still got the side panels on the bike, the little R65 ones?
If so make a plate to mount behind one of the panels and mount the electrics there above the battery, i'll post a pic later tonight of what i mean, plus you'll have easy access to the electrics.

Hope it helps

or run filters on the carb (as in above pic) and put the electrics in the redundant airbox

Cheers for the reply's lads.
Im gonna try takle the electrics also the mounting of the tank this evening. I am still stumped as to what to do, i was thinking of putting the electrics underneath the fiberglass seat. But a bit of fiddling around with the wires and mounting!!!! Will check back when i figure it out

I finally figured out a solution i am happy with.
The tank mounting was pretty easy tbh i got some thick rubber hose and sliced it down the middle to fit the front mounting point. Then for the rear mount got a bit creative lol.... i used a 50mm bolt lock with spacers and the original retaining loop. Actually works really well everything fits well with no movement.
Then the electrics were a bit more tricky. I put the starter relay and flasher relay upside-down, just under the frame. The voltage regulator was relocated under the seat, just had to extend 4 wires. The ignition control unit is mounted where the coil was mounted.

As for the coil i relocated it near the end of the tank. I want to change the coil as it is very bulky, i was looking at some dynatek minicoils. Does anyone know the primary resistance of the original boshe coil is??

Cheers for the replies......
