Heat shields for R65??
« on: February 11, 2013, 02:09:54 AM »
Hello everyone!!!
The last weekend, I went out with my GF for a short ride... I took away the Krauser bags (which she is used to) and at some point, getting off the bike she burned her leg a little bit...

I was wondering if there are heat shields that somehow could protect a passenger a little bit more....
The only heat shield I´ve seen on R65s on the net (by searching pics) is one that goes near the rider´s foot peg which doesn´t make a lot of sense to me (newbie comment perhaps) like this one:

Have anyone seen something bigger for the passenger?

Thanks as always!!!
Regards,
Fernando

Get her to wear some proper clothing.

Which she will need to wear if she were ever to come off of it with you.

The only time my wife burned herself on an airhead was when we were mucking about in the street outside my house and she jumped on the pillion position whilst wearing a dress.  Left a bit of skin from her calf on the exhaust.  Learned a valuable lesson from that.

Cheers

I'll second that.
For Valentine, offer her a nice trouser for biking and invite her, if weather permits, to a restaurant, riding the bike on the new pants...
She will know that SHE counts and that you care about HER safety ...
Tells a lot to some women....

ATGATT.

BTW, heat shields can also get hot enough to damage bare hide.

The heat shield in the link is designed to keep the heel of one's boot from melting by accidentally touching the exhaust pipe.  It's the rest of the safety equipment that keeps your girlfriend from looking like this

I never let them get on or off without telling them to use the foot pegs. Using them keeps the legs safely away from the hot exhaust, but proper clothing is the best solution.
