Conical rubber bump under seat
« on: February 07, 2013, 08:15:55 AM »
Hello !
The rubber bump at the locking pin of my seat is badly worn.
At this point I've big trouble opening the seat as it locks too deep.
My dealer told me it is unobtainium...
So, fellows R65 users, any idea for a replacement ? A fix ?
Thanks for my R65 and my butt....

Start your search at the local hardware store. Look for tapered rubber bunghole plugs. Some may have threaded shanks on the larger o.d. end.

There's just something creepy about that product description even if I do know the actual definition and usage. [smiley=deal2.gif] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bunghole

I'm at work right now, so I can't look at a seat .

Is the rubber bumper held in with a screw going through the center ?

I'll just throw this out there, home winemaking and brewing shops have drilled tapered rubber stoppers, don't know if it will work in this application or not .

The bumper has a hole in its centre. It is fitted on the pin of the seat which serve to lock the seat on the lock.
I think it is used to limit the travel of the pin into the lock as it is serrated between the seat and the lock box on the frame.
I will look at rubber blocks used in wine making...

Do you have all of the other 10 rubber stops in place around the seat edge. They are intended to support the seat not just the locking pin.

Went to work on it Monday also 4 days in January. In 2012 I'd used it 14 days by now. I obviously try to avoid salt but if the roads are dry I'll ride.

I coat everything in Waxoyl before the winter. You can wash the bike and it doesn't bring it off. I clean the wax off with white spirit in the spring and it comes up pretty clean.

I bought a brand new 1976 Z900 from Doug Hackings in Bolton.  Is the shop still in business ?

Any place to get those seat hinges anymore?   One of mine is gone.  I can't seem to find a part number.

I think the rubbers and the hinges are available at Motobins and Motorworks.

There's a rubber bump stop an ebay in the US, it's still not cheap but I don't know what the dealer wanted to charge you.
