How to get the same fuel level on both carbs ?
« on: February 06, 2013, 02:53:09 AM »
Hello !
Tinkering a lot with my carbs lately to find the proper jetting, I found that I had consistently one carb bowl level upper than the other.
Whatever method I try, one is above the other.
So I wonder what you, clever fellows, use to adjust the fuel level and achieve the same (or near enough) level on both ?

Fuel level is important.  There should be no more than 1mm difference side to side.

The simplest and probably most accurate method if the floats are known good is to remove the bowl and check that the floats are parallel with the carb body when the fuel just starts to flow.

Another method which is easier said than done is to turn off the fuel and remove the bowl. Measure the level from the centre main jet well you should have 22-24mm of fuel. You have to take care not to spill any fuel and make sure the contents of the fuel pipe doesn't cause an error by detaching or clamping it close to the carb inlet. I have calculated that the full contents of the fuel pipe will induce an error of several mm so something must be done. Sometimes you just can't clamp old hardened pipe.

If you have a spare bowl there is an excellent direct method which I'm sure Wirespokes will chime in and describe for you.
