Intake manifold part number

I have a clam shell airbox that I would like to install instead of the flat plastic one on my 82LS. Just from first glance it looks like it takes a different intake manifold from the clam shell airbox to the carb. Checked the fiche on Real OEM and Max and the pictures look different (I know that is not accurate) but they show two different part numbers for the intake on a clam shell airbox, both a right and a left. Then they show one of those same numbers for both sides on the flat airbox.

Anyone have any better insight into just what is needed, part numbers, etc.?

The "intake manifolds" on the clam shell version are different part Nos Right and Left because they are different lengths due to the offset of the cylinders.

The flat airbox must have been designed with the offset taken care of so it could use the same part No Right and Left. It was Probably done because it's not ideal for the two cylinders to have intake tracts of different length as that can have some small effect on the torque curve.

Airheads really are 2 single cylinder engines (with slightly different intake and exhaust systems) connected to a common crankshaft. It's no wonder we can chase our tail in pursuit of perfect engine smoothness.

So then it looks like I only need to purchase one manifold, the one that is only specific to the odd length on the clam shell airbox. The ones I currently have are in good shape and since it is the same part number it should be useable. Thanks Barry!
